Ginnie is one of the best fresh water spring complexes I've ever dived. It
all depends on what you like, I guess, whether it would be worth the trip to
you or not. You can dive in an overhead environment in Ginnie without cave
or cavern training without fear of siltout or getting lost. The flow of
water down at the protective grate (placed at the point you shouldn't go past
anyway) is so fierce that I've hung on to the grate and been like a flag
flapping in the breeze. With a current like that, you definitely are not
going to have silt problems. Most of it doesn't feel that strong.....just
down at the grate.
I made my very first certification dive in that cavern back in 1976. Since
then, I've taken many a class there for part of their certification. Devil's
Eye and Devil's Ear are two other dive spots on the property that really
require at least cavern certification to enjoy. One of the things that we
used to do was dive the Eye and the Ear, then float down the Santa Fe River
down to Ginnie.....a very pleasant way to kill time.
As for 40 Fathom, I can't say.....never been there.
