| subject: | The questions and notices on FMail |
Hello All! 1. Is there any possibility to specify the maximum size of echo bundles which are being packed for the particular links? If yes, how can one get access to it? I'd like to have larger bundles for the big nodes, smaller bundles for small nodes, the more small bundles for points etc. 2. It's very convenient that FMail's configurator has the Browser function implemented for the specified links and echoes. Nevertheless, the quick search function is extremely lacking here. Imaging there are very large amount of links (nodes and points) and echoes (about 100 nodes and about several thousand echoes); I'd like to have a possibility to search the required information quickly. 3. I feel really upset about the menu "Miscelanneous -> Personal Mail". Firstly, I totally misunderstand why the directory with the Personal Mail has a restriction on storing the mail only in .MSG format? As well as I understand, it's much more convenient to allow processing of this mail in the format of the main database - e.g., JAM. In this case, it's much more convenient also to store rather large database of a personal echomail; also, any search can be performed more effectively on this database when required. Another problem of this menu is related to completely unclear restriction on the Personal Mail folder name. E.g., I'm trying to assign a name "MY_ARCMAIL" to this folder in FMail's setup; it yields to creation of a folder with a name "MY_ARCMA" on a hard disk. If I'm trying to give a name "PVT.OLEG.ARCMAIL" to this directory, the system warns me that it's impossible to create a directory with such names and suggests me to change it, like I used some illegal characters or made another rough mistake in this name. The system only accepts and processes in a right way the name of this directory if it's formed in an old DOS format 8.3. Is it really so important to use just an old 8.3 format? It would be a good idea to have an ability to process all possible files and directories names which can exist in the modern OS Windows. The more, FMail doesn't position itself as a cross-platform tosser, it's intended just for use in Windows. 4. I haven't found yet how to manage the allow / decline possibility echoes auto-creation on the particular links level. Imaging I need to allow the auto-creation just to the particular links group (or just to the particular links); the auto-creation must be declined for all other. Is it possible? If no, I'd very like to see it implemented in the next releases. 5. Do any tools exist for announcing of appearance of a new echo in the configurator? It's especially important for the echoes which are created automatically due to auto-creation function described above. I haven't found yet how to do it. In some other tossers (e.g., FastEcho) this function is implemented by means of automatic creation of a message which may be posted in appropriated announces echo. 6. The wish about using the environment variables as %var% remains actual. It applies to the paths, directories names and any other places where it may be convenient. 7. The configuration import from others tossers works not correctly enough yet. In particular, rather a complicated configuration of nodes and echoes from FastEcho can be imported more or less successfully (for which I'm grateful to you) but many parameters have to be corrected manually after it. For example, what prevents the Origins or echobase files names and paths from being imported automatically? At the sime time, the subscribers list for this echo is being imported correctly, as well as some other important parameters. Is it possible to improve the configuration import operation and to minimize the necessity of manual corrections? That's all. I'm sorry for the long delay with this answer, but, obviously, I needed some time to verify the functionality qualitatively and to describe my wishes in detail. It seems there will be more notices and questions, but later. Once more - thank you very much for an interesting, useful and well-timed program FMail!
