Tom, your assessment as stated above, is correct.  However just so 
nobody gets draws the wrong general conclusion, I would point out that
the Fifth Amendment does protect from multiple punishments for the same
offense.  That is to say that once you have been sentenced, you cannot
usually be called back and given a more onerous sentence for that 
offense.
