Lets see... I guess your first question deals with my ability to
understand D2 and how it works, with further speculation on the use of
D2 in the sense I applied it to the Flyer.
I have 18 years in broadcasting both television and radio. I hold a
First Class FCC license (broadcast engineer). I was around for the first
2 Inch Quad VTR's, B&W 1/2 inch open reel and have worked with
everything on up through D1, D2, D3 and HDTV. Seen it, done it and I'm
still doing it. I currently own VIDEX Corporation, which is comprised of
VIDEX Film & Video Productions, VIDEX Computers, Broadcast Tape & Supply
and VIDEX Broadcast Animation. Now, on to part two.... The Flyer WILL
have a D2 input available this summer, with that, you will indeed have
D2 quality throughput. The Media 100 (an excellent system) does not
currently have a D2 input (I don't know if they plan one).
Newtek has long stated that they intended to break away the Lightwave
module for IBM and other platforms, way before the demise of Commodore.
Hey, they gotta go on with life too. Maybe a new line of Amiga's will
eventually be built by someone that has the where-with-all to put out
the machine and market it.
You can still get Amiga's repaired, just check the Amiga Echos and you
will see plenty of third party support and people willing to repair
broken systems. Spare parts are available, not really plentiful, but
available. The 4000's are in enough demand so that they are still
selling for $2000 to $2500, try that with a two year old PC that sold
for $3000.
But, alas, we must wait for new production.
I still sell them, Toasters and Flyers, but I sometimes have to pick
them up used and give a private warranty from my company, but they
seldom break, unless they are abused.
So run on out and buy a Media 100 or other system if you wish, I don't
sell mail order, so you're not a potential customer.
I just wanted everyone to know the Amiga/Toaster systems are down but
not out. I still think there is no greater bang for the buck! Non-linear
for under $20,000.00 including EVERYTHING. No extras, no add ons.
Not bad for a "dead" platform.
Thanks for your comments... Good luck.
