Hi Charles, as you were just saying about Choices.......

CH> How do you know that, Alan?
By looking up the answers. This information is from the National
Adoption Information Clearinghouse:
In 1992, 127,441 children of all races and nationalities were adopted
in the US. (1992 is the last year where *complete* statistics are
available.) Of these, 53,525 of the total adoptions were stepparent or
relative adoptions; 19,733 of the total adoptions were conducted by
public agencies (adoptions of children from the foster care system);
6,536 children from other countries were adopted in the US. The
remainder of the 1992 adoptions were either private agency or
independent adoptions of US children.
At the end of the fiscal year 1992, there were 442,218 children in
foster care. By 12/31/94 that number had grown to 469,073. Sure looks
to me like adoption is not keeping up.
This information and a lot more can be found at the DHHS Children's
Bureau web site at http://www.acf.dhhs.gov/programs/cb/stats/index.htm
This site has the latest in foster care and adoption statistics
Hope this helps.
