I disagree. All you have to do is violate the one about
pointing in an unsafe direction and experience a mechanical
failure. Both tend to happen if you trip, stumble, or fall.
Like Bruce, I don't think a safety is a good substitute for
proper handling. Unlike Bruce, I don't think it's a waste
of time to use it. I suppose if you're a safe driver, you
don't need to use seat belts, either. I use the safety when
I hunt, and when I practice hunting. At the trap range, I
yell "pull" with the gun in a field carry position and the
safety on, but that is just my (unusual) personal preference.
