Hello Steven.

11 Nov 02 23:37, you wrote to me:

It follows FTSC guidelines, if the system flies the Pvt flag and has no IP
protocol listed then the node is deemed uncontactable by either POTS or IP.
If the system flies the Pvt flag and lists an IP protocol flag it will use
the host/domain name in the system name field to contact that system via the
stated IP protocol, I haven't checked to see if it will pull the host/domain
from after the flag (eg: IBN:somehost.somewhere), but I know it defaults to
the system name field.

Note the above only works with IBN, IFC, ITN as thats all the IP protocols my
mailer supports.

I would have to search for a Pvt IBN system with the fqdn after the flag to
check this out. Thing is from what I've perused through the nodelist, if they
don't put the fqdn in the system name field they don't stick it anywhere and
one is left with a Pvt IBN listing with no real fqdn and a confused mailer at
this end :-)

Of course I could sit here and type manual nodelist overrides to overcome
those listings (if I knew the proper info for the node).

And in answer to your final query you are thinking of, but haven't asked yet,
the answer is Yes, it will default call your system as it will pull the fqdn
from the system name field first and thus won't bother looking in other
places like that "phone number" you have. Mind you, if I activated the POTS
side of the mailer I would have to tell it to use IP first (disable POTS
call method) to contact your system or else it might try dialing that "phone
number" ;-)

Cheers,
                Rick
