released since you bought your NetComm modem?  Is that sand getting in your

Nope, if you'd bought a Courier, you'd be enjoying all manner of feature
upgrades and bugfix flash-ROMs.  I'm quite happy to acknowledge that USR's
modems may not be 100% perfect, but they still shit all over NetComms...
