DT> We had an emergency staff meeting after school today. The Super was
DT> going to be there and attendance was mandatory. All day long we all
DT> wondered what was up. At the meeting we got a bombshell...our not too
DT> popular principal is resigning in January....I still can't get over it.
DT> She cried and I felt it was bitter sweet...I hate to see people
DT> hurting...but I am glad for our school that she is leaving...many
DT> including myself had lost all confidence in her leadership (or lack of).
DT> Still it was a stunning moment.
We had a similar experience at our school about 3 years ago now. The current
principal at that time (who was not a very good principal, and not popular
either) was ousted. Apparently he found out that he wasn't having his
contract renewed by finding an ad for his replacement in the Classified
section of the newspaper. Some say that isn't quite accurate.
Anyhow, he was clearly upset to have to leave, and it didn't exactly make
everything in his personal life run too well. I felt sorry for him, but
was glad to see him go. And things have been much better since he left.
What I couldn't believe was some of the behavior of faculty when they found
out this guy was recieving the boot. They shared info with their students
in an almost gloating fashion, and kids came into my classroom rejoicing
about this guy's dismissal. I was aghast at them taking such delight in
another's misfortune, and aghast at the unprofessional behavior of my
colleagues.
