| subject: | Newsgroup (NG) digests |
Hi! All, I'm about to start a batch programming project to split NG digests up into their basic posts again, and was wondering if anyone might have done the same thing already? NG digests consist of posts to their respective NGs, however they're grouped by 'topic' (i.e. "Subj:" lines) and then concatenated into a single email post. (The single email is the result that I see.) This resultant email might consist of 20-or-so postings, sorted by topics. Since the JAM messagebase that I use has trouble storing/presenting the full text of digest posts, I'm not getting full value. In short, I'm not seeing all there is to see in some NG posts. I need to do something about it. :) I plan on doing a -very- rudimentary splitting function only, due to the complexity of the structure of digest emails. (The digests have multiple "From:" and "Date" lines and have no real delimiter between posts.) However, there may be a way of doing it with fgrep[386] (-gasp-!), using its character wildcard search ability. Has anyone tried this process yet? Or, anything similar perhaps? Cheers, Paul. ...
