Ok, I've taken a look, at that file is not a QWK file!!!  The
.dat file only has message text in it.  It could be bluewave
format, I don't know.  If it was QWK, the file would have been
called messages.dat, and it would have started with binary
information (from memory).  Anyway, the reason for that particular
error is that the size managed to get interpreted as a negative
number, malloc() failed because it was passed a negative number,
and thus reported "out of memory".  As for the command system
halting etc, who knows.  Does that answer your question?
