From: Jan van Hoek (NL) >> And mainframe computer fanfold paper? If you won't tell it to anyone else, I am prepared to confess that I always change the paper settings in my word processor to inches, first thing after installing such software. I know those paper measures by heart, and I don't even recognize the same when expressed in millimeters. This force of habit is amplified by the plastic overlay templates that I have saved from my school days, which are also expressed in inches rather than millimeters. It's a benign deviation, which is not expected to disappear soon. I have the same with wood screws. In my younger days these were expressed in a mixed fashion: inches for length and millimeters for diameter (e.g. 3/4 x 6 means 3/4 inch long and 6 millimiters thick). Only shop assistants over 50 years of age will recognize these measures and translate them on the fly to what I really need. -- -- Jan van Hoek (NL) -- Wed 5 May 2004 07:35 CET --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
