You shouldn't have to buy or "install" one just to install from one.
They are *so* common in the zillions of clapped out old PC's you should
be able to grab one from about anywhere. IDE cables are a dime a dozen
too. So, snake an IDE cable from your motherboard past one of the empty
slot covers in back. You could do the same with a $0.79USD internal
power cable splitter. Then when you get an ornery CD that doesn't work
right with SCSI, grab any old IDE CD drive, and the power supply from
the case it came in if necessary, plug 'em into the dusty cable out
back, boot into BIOS setup and find that resource-wasteful IDE
controller you have disabled and enable it, and then set the boot order
to start with CDROM. After you've done your initial install, put the
BIOS back where it belongs, dump all the IDE junk back into a storage
container, and be on your way. Just don't forget to raise some *#{at}&)(!
with the morons who made a CD that doesn't work on a high performance
PC. While you're at it, also complain that you can't boot your existing
compatible OS, and start an install from a setup program.
