Hi Jim,
You didn't say what Video-drivers you are using - If you are using 
SDD/SNAP drivers then it could be any rate up to the maximum your 
monitor/adapter will agree on. Unless you have it set to say120-150Hz 
refresh and you take that drive out and put it in a different hardware 
host the video with SDD/SNAP usually comes up; like M$ with a monitor 
change; at default 60Hz.

Reference the colour depth - unless you're currently working with only a 
subset of the colour spectrum, you'll find it hard to differentiate the 
difference from 16-bit on a good monitor to 24-bit colour.  I always 
leave mine default at 64K colour at 1024 x 768 on 15"/17" Trinitrons. 
Response is better than at 24-bit.
