RS>> Nope. By definition you must still be able to communicate with

RS>> the modem over the comms port to do any configing you want to do.

I thought that this was one of the reason that these used Dip

switches.

If you set certain switches, you can actually Dial into my courier

from your place and reconfigure the whole modem remotely.

BG>> And what about those computers which don't use carrier detect

BG>> or DTR (Amigas?),

RS> Irrelevant, you can still configure the modem thru the comms

RS> port and AT&W whatever config you want the modem to have on that

RS> stuff. No need for a DIP switch.

RS> It must be doable, Hayes dumped all DIP switches right back

RS> with the original 2400 for christ sakes.

RS> ALL you need is NVRAM.

but more and more (Microsoft) software is comming out, that will not

even look at your MVRAM to take its setup from and instead gets it

from the AT&F1 (where the setting may not be perfect - though you

can change it a little bit buy dip switches.

At least with the Courier you can change a switch so that your modem

either looks at NVRAM or AT&F1 on powerup.

All this above was from my bad memory, I am now going to RTFM on the

subject.
