I recall reading somewhere where someone else had the same problem. The
solution which worked for them was to not set GCCLOAD. Apparently this
causes problems on systems without much memory (and even 8 megs,under OS/2,
is not much).

The C compiler should work fine by itself provided you don't attempt C++ compilation.

That's a pre-processor (pp), not the compiler.

cplus.exe, at around 1 meg in size, is the C++ compiler.
