I predicted that the Canadian management was less than moronic to play the
Americans so many times before the Olympics. The Americans were smart enough
to use what they learned and pick on Canada's best players. The ones they
didn't injure they took out of the game with very smart psychological ploys
like dissing their dead relatives. I only wonder if the money and
endorsements that they get is worth destroying the game that got them their
gold medals in the first place.
It will be a very short time before the womens hockey is as bad as the
HL.
How many times can the commentaters say that the referee is letting them play
hockey when the skilled hockey players are saying that the rules are killing
the game that they love.
I wonder if the Americans would love their favorite pastimes if the umpire
changed the calls late in the game to favor the team that had less skill but
more size and rougher tactics. What if the quarterback found himself being
gooned every play of the 4th quarter and the ref said that the game was close
so he was letting the players play. The rules are there and the only problem
is that the almighty dollar is causing the game to be run by businessmen and
not sports people. Breaking into the US market has become more important than
the rules of the game and the players who actually play it with some skill
and ability rather than size and agression.
My prediction for the next Olympic Womens Hockey team is 6 foot 170 lb
bodybuilders with less skill than the team they have already. If you want to
let them play the game then you should tell the referees that the game starts
with the rules and they should be called the same way the entire game.
