RS> You really want to try graphing the ATY11 data, is a HELL of an eye
RS> opener and there is a VERY clear correlation between thruput and the
RS> shape of the curve and the S/N data if you understand the principles.

BG> I understand the principles just fine thanks,

Nope, or you wouldnt have made that comment about the 1-2db being crucial.
Thats NOT the problem with your line, the problem is the pronounced slope. AND
you db level clearly cant have anything to do with the atrocious handshaking
problems you had if a rom change in the Sportster can fix them completely.

BG> but the Sportster doesn't give a reading for
BG> the S/N ratio, which is a bit of a shame really.

Yeah, particularly when its such a crucial factor with
V34, particularly when the bandwidth isnt very good.

RS> Odd that Easter affected the fundys so badly. You do
RS> realise that Dave Hatch is some form of fundy dont you ?

BG> Oh really? Tell me more...

I think he might actually a sort of minister, but works as
well. One of his BBSs was Ministry Support Group or close.

Presumably the bible basher/Jovey end of fundy but I dont know that.

BG> OS mail was likely fucked as well, but as I only
BG> have HS_Modems tagged, I wouldn't notice that anyway.

RS> I get quite a few and there has been a big surge of
RS> that coming in too. Some have always been very very lumpy,
RS> massive block at weekly intervals isnt that uncommon in some.

BG> Yeah, it seems that some OS systems are only
BG> polled every 3-4 days, maybe even weekly in some
BG> cases, as with USR_Modems, which is very lumpy indeed.

Yeah, rather odd, and it seems to be more than just the OS poll freq
too, you can often see just a couple of US messages in total too.
Presumably the rate into George Peaces system is lump itself too.

RS> Are you saying that your HS_Modems has US mail in it ?

BG> No, not since I retagged it a few weeks ago. Local stuff only.

RS> The one we get here never does, tho it did at one time.

BG> Perhaps the OS feed went west some time ago then.

Yeah, long time ago, something of the order of a year.
