BG> Well, the email appears to have returned with BG> a vengeance. Over 400 messages in Avtech too... RS> That was a rather bigger slug than we got in just one day. BG> Most of those appeared to be from TML too. Figures I guess, we were seeing those dribbling in at 30+ a day for that week and you got them in one surge instead. RS> Interesting point come to think of it, Marwicks was always rather RS> tight on disk space when I used it, most obvious in the rather minimal RS> depth of quite a few of the message bases in terms of days of mail. BG> He's supposedly upgraded all 4 PCs with very large drives. Certainly would be mad not to with the c/MB dropping into the 25c range. RS> Have you used it at all lately ? I havent been on for years, literally. BG> No, I tested out his V.34 Maestros once, but that's all. Big problems BG> with his boards too, as subscribers now have to pay on a sliding scale, BG> according to what level of access they require - CD-ROMs etc. Oh, OK, I hadnt even noticed that happening at all, its been so long since I was on. And even that was a very quick flit thru for some reason now long forgotten. Its the next distance zone for me, so no point. Whereas Sydney/Melburg/Canberra and Adelaide are all in next lower. BG> Even Brisbug members have to pay something like $80 per annum BG> just to use the board, and needless to say, heaps of people BG> have told the management to stick the club up their arses. Yeah, thats a fair old slug. Quite a few of the ones that charge only change $35 class per year. RS> Corse, with the massive drops in hard drive prices, there is no RS> reason why he couldnt have fixed that problem in the mean time. BG> He has. We actually discussed this last year (I met him BG> whilst working at CHH, and he's definitely a bit weird). Everyone seems to say that about him |-) RS> There has been no obvious sign that Daves systems RS> have dumped any mail due to running out of drive space. RS> Particularly with the overseas echoes which wont see any RS> effect of our glitch on the volume of new messages posted. BG> Nothing appears to have gone astray, but I have had a HELL of a lot of BG> undetected dupes turning up. Should sort itself out soon, I expect. OK, no sign of those here. Dave does appear to run a rather aggressive dupe checker, it was dropping everything except the first of a multiparter from one particular multipart system, WildMail from memory. I did conclude that pretty carefully from a local who is only one step away via Dave, asked him to check online on his BBS that they really were getting onto his BBS from his QWK ok, and then he appeared to vanish and I never got around to pursuing it. The one I saw losing everything but his first part in a couple of International feeds for many months appears to have upgraded and his multiparters now have different detail on the Subject line which survives dupe checkers. @EOT: ---* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/934 @PATH: 711/934 |
