Microsoft an XP Pro distribution (called "Corporate" or
something) which shipped without any kind of activation code.

I thinK you can check whether it is "hacked" by looking for a
regkey named WPActivate (i'm not sure about the name, but it should be
something similar to this) under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows. If the
key is not present then it probably never had the activation module
(corporate) otherwise it is probably cracked (the module is there but it is
disabled)
