FM> I think this runs the risk that we'll never see any new blood,
FM> just the same boring old farts boring each other shitless.

We can still feed AVT into Fidonet (or what remains of it).

FM> Do? Do what? Since when is Concord interstate from
 FM> Wollstonecraft?

I pay $0.25 a day, you dork! I pay $0.25 a day to call Paul direct.
I could do that from Perth just as easily, and if I chose off-peak;
just as cheaply.

FM> I prefer Peter's suggestion, if it comes to the crunch. We
FM> remain a national echo which is available to any sysop who is
FM> prepared to carry it (maybe a few get lost) but are responsible
FM> for moving our own mail.

No... not all of us can offer the same reliability of Paul, and some
of us would still be relying on the kindness of strangers by using
their dollar to move mail. My ideal AVT-net would be a system where
all of us moves our own mail able to point of any other one of us,
with perhaps one or two feeds into Fido.

All we need is a simple BBS/tosser like TinyPoint, and an agreed
time when each of us leaves our computers online (after 3 AM, say). It
would also be very convenient to be able to send each other stuff
unattended.

FM> On the original question, isn't one of the functions of the
FM> moderator to keep the FidoGods off our backs? Shouldn't Rod
 FM> Speed be fixing this?

It'd be nice to have a fallback position already in place, though.

Regards,
Bob
