-> RJT> Worse yet, it wanted 400 cycles! -> ok could be aircraft then they use frequencies like that to reduce the -> mass of the transformers needed... I think they do on ships too. -> AIUI ground vehicles are all DC. Military Aircraft did go to 400 Cycle AC to reduce the weight of al lthe transformers required. The Navy also tried an ALL 400 Cycle(Hertz to the Young Kids) ship but as I recall it didn't work out for some reason. Of course the Weight reduction was not a very big factor. But their Firecontrol systems were moslty 400 Cycle in the "Old Navy"(the 60's and 70's) -> I don't think Carol Shenkenberger reads here but she's the one to ask about -> military electronics. (I think she's IT tech on a navy ship) As I recal Carol was in the Computer Technology Field. In the old days their rating badge used the same emblem as the Ford Trucks(Gear with a Lightening Bolt through it). You could irritate them by asking them to work on your Ford Truck!! :-) :-) :-) --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5* Origin: Shakey Jake's *ALL FREE BBS* Santee, CA (1:202/1324) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 202/1324 10/3 106/2000 633/267 |
