Price is not the issue. WD is different from everything else, "EIDE"
rather than 100% spec ATA. Drivers supplied to Sun and M$ for inclusion
in those operating systems make up for WD hardware shortcuts. eCS, OS/2
& Linux users don't have that luxury, and so WD drives in those
environments are effectively handicapped.

WD has the industry's best tech support - because they need it.
