Hi all,
Here I am on I-95 towards Jacksonville, Fl going late to a group
birthday party for several people including myself.
The Lory baby hatched, but when we got back after our
afternoon perambulations and errands he was buried in the box shavings.
He also was chilled. I brought him in and put him in the extra tiny size
plastic box we all use for brooders (?) the "small world" or "penn=plax"
teeny terrariums. Put him on the heat with a thermometer. Unfortunately
he had wood shavings stuck to his umbilical cord. I tried to get them
off but it pulled the umbilicus a bit so I am worried that it herniated
the baby. It could be a source for infection. I hope he makes it. I am
worried about his belly button and the remnant of the cord and yolk. He
is only about 1" long and has a tiny long black beak.
Please wish us good luck with this one. Maybe enough good wishes and
I'll be up 24/7 for the next two weeks.
Anyone have any experience feeding lory babies (he is a rainbow, green
naped) especially from day one? I have Harrison's, Pretty Bird, Kaytee
Exact Macaw (12% fat), and Cede' HF/Lory which I don't think is too
good. Help?
Will be echoing this from AIE to Fido.
Thanks!!!
PS Experienced with parrots, big and small just not Lories.
