Hi Phil!
You made my major point for me! The owners of these cars are
inconsiderate, selfish, childish dweebs, who are in fact committing a
crime of noise polution and the owners of the car stereo places should
be indicted as contributing to a crime.
Having the ability to do such a thing and using it responsibly is one
thing, but to constantly abuse it on the road where you are interfering
with hundreds right NOT to have to listen to it has to be considered.
It is listed as a crime in most municipalities but is seldom enforced by
cops more interested in busting pot smokers.
Note to most car audio folks: The cops can use a loud stereo as a reason
for pulling you over to check for other infractions, so you might want
to have some consideration for yourself to keep from getting busted for
other things.
Driving with headphones on is also illegal in most places. The reason
is that it interferes with the driver's ability to drive responsibly in
a safe manner. What's the difference between headphones on and a wall of
speakers behind one's head?
I also suppose that few of the car stereo folks are concerned that a lot
of loud bass can contribute to significant loss of hearing over time.
What the hell, that's just an excuse to turn it up LOUDER!!!
Bill Graham's Cal Expo Amphitheatre is less than a mile from me. After
it was installed, homes were built quite close to it. The homeowners
bitched about the noise, so now at every concert there is this serious
looking dude with a sound level meter threatening to shut the concert
down if it gets over the threshold of hearing. This has happened even
though the amphitheatre was liscensed to be there first and was there
long before the houses were. Why won't the cops do the same for those
dweebs with their car stereos?
It could be easily shown that those that are irresponsible with their
car stereos are probably doing alcohol or illegal drugs, and perhaps
involved with other criminal activity, too. Sounds like a natural for
a "pull over" to me.
A couple of hundred years away from this amphitheatre is a major shop
ping mall where the local "bass heads" hang out trying to see who can be
the loudest (distortion levels required to obtain this have no bearing).
I'm not down on those that use their audio equipment responsibly, no
matter how badly they want to distort or mishape the sound to their own
tastes (or lack thereof)".
If it is loud enough to be plainly heard outside of the car though, then
it is loud enough to cause hearing damage to those inside. That is being
immature, irresponsible to yourself and those riding in your vehicle,
and probably interfering with other's rights NOT to have to listen to
you. I don't support that kind of activity in this echo.
