I have no idea about how the sz and rz programs work and what kinds of
connections they can use. telnet could redirect stdin and stdout of child
processes to the TCP socket it uses for the connection, for example, but I
don't know whether it does that. Somebody would have to try.

No need for external sz/rz program would be one reason, and it's easier to
use if you don't have to start the programs yourself at the right moment.
