There are a few good pollies around, Sam - on both sides - so don't lose 
hope.  Brown in Vic is one.  He has done a great job bringing the 
transport system up to date and has won the support of the unions 
involved - no mean feat for a Lib!  But the full effects won't come 
through for some years, so he needs to be around to shepherd them along.

Button was another good one.  He did a great job sorting out our 
cossetted vehicle industry and our country owes him a big vote of 
thanks.  Plus he is a decent, honourable and self-effacing person.

Unfortunately, the poor pollies that you rightly criticise tar the few 
good ones.  The good ones just get on with the job, and don't spend all 
their time looking for public acclaim.

I don't support simplistic quick fixes such as term limits.  If Button 
only had two terms we would not have a car industry plan IMO.  Big 
culture changes take time to sell to all the affected interest groups.  
We all want to slaughter other people's sacred cows - never our own .
