Hi Vic,
the installer is only useful if you want to import a NS 4.61 user 
profile. With the ZIP version - in connection with the MOZILLA_HOME and 
MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH environment variables - several versions of Mozilla can 
be used parallel and with the same user profile and plugin data. You can 
try different versions without having to configure anything. When a new 
version comes out, all you have to do is unzip it to your machine.
Put these two lines in your CONFIG.SYS and reboot before installing 
Mozilla. In my case, they read
SET MOZILLA_HOME=C:\Internet
SET MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH=C:\Internet\Plugin
