Not from the beginning but generally i read most of it.
CD backups seem to be most acceptable of what i have avaiable. Currently
both tapes and Jazz &co cost much more than CDs, slower than CDs and
are waaay less reliable than CDs.

For daily backups i use mostly High Speed RW discs and i cant remember any
case of not being able to read anything back. A disc will fail sooner or
later, but that happens on right away and i simply throw it. I did
expiriment with Ulra Speed discs but they either cost too much or have way
too high faultrate (depending on the manufacturer)

For archiving of data that i plan to delete i use mostly SilverLine CDRs
and mostly faulty disks will fail either right away or in 1-2 weeks, so i
keep the data for a while, then after 2 weeks or so, i check the disk - if
it's readable i delete it. I can't remember any case of a disk that
survived this initial screwup time becomind unreadable.

CDs are quite reliable if you handle them correctly. There is no reason to
expose them to direct sunlight or extreme heat or humidity, and they seem
to survive our climate pretty well (30-45 C in the summer). And i never put
any labels on CDs, just write on them with special markers.

BTW, Magnetic media seems to fail quite alot over here, i don't know why,
maybe some EM fields or something ...
