I am pulling something out of your post because it deserves magnification.
Some cops go beyond legality in what they do . Some never get caught, some
do. IMO Law Enforcement is one of the trusts we give to individuals that
demand absolute trust for the officer. The amount of LEOS that cross the
line is way too high.
They have as close to absolute legal power as can be had.
A local DS is awaitinghis second trial here. He is a black officer in sumner
county who was on a fast track and well liked.
After several complaints from spanish speaking people that he took their
wallets for dl checks and returned them less cash in the hundreds, a reverse
sting using a spanish speaking undercover officer was successful in verifying
that he did indeed do the act at least once.
The jury returned in 45 minutes with a hopelessly deadlocked statement and
trial will be redone. What I get concerned about here is that some of the 12
jurors may not realize that once a dirty cop...... At one time, not long go
fully one half of DC force was under indictment and New Orleans has itrs own
problems currently.
I am NOT proud to say it, but in my dsities,I worked with officers in many
jurisdictions, from the most poor inner city to lowest crime rural areas.
My favorite personal Sheriff is now and will be in fed slammer for raping his
wex wife. He drove co car, to scene, used co radio equip to monitor, co cuffs
and duct tape and so on. He was a n excellent Sherif and the perceived
absolute power corrupted him. Numerous TN Sheriffs are under indictment or
recently convicted of felonies and one judge a la Clintonis serving time for
clintonesque behavior and running to mexico whil awaiting sentencing on
appeal. It is a sad and attrocious fact that absolute power corrupts. The
best we can do is clean it up when we find it in such a way as to senda loud
and clear message to LE that becoming
