Hello Wayne -

Had to change some environ variables for the boot scripting?

I will scout around and try to find the ztelnet and
documentation. I think the reason it's hard to locate is that
it is actually a BSD binary (originally)? It compiles for Linux
though. Howard compiled it for himself and sent me a copy of
the binary but I had already found it then just used his
instead. :-)

If/when you have the room to do it it is worthwhile to keep a
recent image copy of the main OS partition on the hard drive.
It's not a 'backup' per se but can be handy when you make a
mistake to be able to boot using a floppy and just copy the
image file back into the main partition and reboot. Trick is to
write it to another partition so that it doesn't overwrite
itself when you try to copy it back again. ;-)

WC>> I formatted /hda4 ext3fs but my /home directory sits on

WC> ext3fs and /home on ext2fs /hda2.

Yes, Roy reminded me that ext3 is 'journaling' and even though
I don't remember everything I read about journaling it is
supposed to be more fault tolerant (something like a duplicate
TOC or something like that).

--8<--cut

CA>> You're a bit ahead of me on this.

WC> Oh I would not say that as you've had ztelnet and ATP up
WC> and running... I'm not there yet.

It was a bit of a puzzle. Had to add another 4 meg ramdrive to
the mini-install then sort out all the required directories
etc. but it and the original ATP is so close to what I use on a
daily basis that it was 'comfortable' for me to use it. No
Qedit for writing messages but that was a minor problem. 'Joe'
under Linux would be a close match for Qedit once I figured out
the macro language for Joe. :-)

WC> I'm a bit more fearless about cohabitating my operating
WC> systems on one physical drive and resizing and fdisking
WC> partitions. There's a Linux native partition resizing
WC> utility as well.

CA>> I'm waiting until I relocate myself and my computers and
CA>> the 'dust' settles before I tackle any time consuming
CA>> projects.

If it all works out OK I will be networked to a 120 gig
'server' and can hide image copies of my systems on it. ;-)
Then I'll be "bullet proofed" totally. LOL

WC> I'm pretty much bedridden so time's not the problem. What I
WC> need to do after so long an unproductive stretch of time is
WC> to reintroduce discipline into a routine where I set aside
WC> at least two hours a day solely for focused study of this
WC> wonderful Debian based release.

It (KNOPPIX) sure does look nice if nothing else. Nothing too
shabby about it. ;-)
