Hello All ...
I'm looking at creating a LAN for my home ... just a simple two workstation
system something like this ....
Computer 1 would handle my BBS, Internet connections (33.6 dialup), and other
misc. chores.
Computer 2 would essentially be a "stand alone", except that it would use the
Internet utilities on Computer 1 to reach the internet.
Arranged something like this ...
Computer 2 ---LAN Cable--->Computer 1---Com3--->BBS line
|
|
---------Com2-->Internet line
The LAN Cable would be anything from a Parallel Port cable to a full-blown
ethernet card/cable. Also, Com2 would be non-dedicated on the Internet.
Both computers would run OS/2 Warp 3.0 Connect. Computer 1 has both TCP/IP
and IBMPEER, but Computer 2 only has IBMPEER.
Is it then possible for Computer 2 to connect to Computer 1 (via the LAN),
start a PPP session on Com2, and then view web pages using Web Explorer on
Computer 2?
My reasoning for this setup ... Computer 1 is my computer, with my BBS, my
Internet "toys", and where I work. Computer 2 is mom's computer. She doesn't
want to have a "direct" connection to the Internet, but likes to "play"
occasionally.
Also, is it possible to boot IBMPEER without the LOGIN screen coming up? Just
curious, in case of power failures. I wouldn't require a separate login
for each member of the family, as on my machine (Computer 1), I would only
share those dirves/directories that I choose to share.
Thanx in advance for any advice.
