Qantas (note the spelling, bonus points to any American who can tell me why
there is no 'U' in Qantas) have had defibrilators (HeartStart 3000's) on
their international aircraft (B747's and B767's) for some 5 or 6 years now.
There have been numerous uses of them and at least these two lives saved.
There have also been a few failures. International cabin crew are trained in
their use. The defibs stay on the B767's when they are used on domestic
services, but as far as I am aware domestic crews are not yet all trained in
their use. Also AFAIK the defibs have not been placed on the B737's used on
domestic routes (B747's are confined to international routes, although some
domestic passengers can travel on some domestic segments of international
flights).
Bye for now,
Jackson
