I haven't tried to use the standard telnet, exit to a child
process, and initiate 'sz' or 'rz' using the same port/connect
as the parent but I'm guessing it's not doable or is extremely
awkward?

If the standard telnet was sufficient why would anyone have
written ztelnet? ;-)
