Hi Matt, Long time no see/type. Had no idea you were still lurking in the
background out there. Are you still running a BBS with a collection of
Audio Files (ha, ha, ha, pun unintended) available for download? In recent
posts there have been several questions about DIY loudspeakers and subs for
both home and mobile use. If so, would like to pass the numbers on to the
interested parties.
About a million years ago there was talk about a mobile audio Echo.
Did anyone actually try to begin one? Traffic here over the past couple
months has been about two to one...mobile audio. And surprisingly, most
seemed to be people above the age of 16. It would seem like a fast moving,
interesting topic for an Echo.
I am still running the basically same system at home, waiting to see
which way DVD, HDCD and AC3 go before seriously thinking of upgrading. It
looks like this upgrade will be very expensive as I will have to replace my
rear speakers with full range units and possibly add a subwoofer for those
same rear channels. The electronics portion is still largely unresolved as to
what type and how many units I will need. I AM NOT a fan of all in one units
like Pioneer and Yamaha are offering. I have yet to hear a Pioneer which I
found satisfying. I have tried their $2,000 plus Elite unit and it was pretty
bad compared to separates, side by side. No matter what you did it just had a
cheap brassy sound to it that wouldn't go away. So I will be waiting and
watching what the separates look like before jumping in. Then perhaps I'll
figure out how to pay for it all.
Cheers, John
