Maybe the voltage wasn't right. Early K6/2's used 2.4v, while later ones
use less. Want to mail it to me to check out?

You only empty trash once every three months?

Grease wipes right off with paper towel or kleenex, but that should be
heat sink compound, and they aren't all the same. It dries out and can
often just be wiped off.

Maybe it was glue. I've often found systems with heat sink held on
exclusively by adhesive. Compaq comes to mind.

The glue was probably the problem, not the CPU. Glue is an insulator,
keeping the CPU hot if it was in fact glue keeping the heat sink
attached to the CPU.
