We addressed the similar issue (Mr2Ice and Win2k instead of polarbar and
xp) by using a fat32 partition. Bad move. There's something about the
fat32 driver not playing nice with how ice checks for the existence of a
file, and msgs were getting lost. Might not be a problem with polarbar.
Our resolution was to move ice to a fat16 partition.
