FWIW, I have a 486/33 with 8MB.  I just installed Watcom C++ and I think
the IDE runs at reasonable speed.  I compiled the sample KITCHEN project
and it was MUCH faster than any GNU GCC compile.  You can see some windows
being redrawn, but they take less than a second.  I'm happy with Watcom
so far...even with 8MB!
