| subject: | Explorer Process and I/O. |
From: "Hrvoje Mesing" Hi, me again. I tryed to separate Desktop/Systray from Explorer.exe process. I used Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>View>Lunch Folder Windows In a Separate Process Used Regsitry and Edited HKCU Keys that refer to \software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer > use of DesktopProcess vaule, ..\Advanced\ with SeparateProcess value, then another HKLM keys that i found on jsiinc.com and elsewhere. Well, also heard that separation of Desktop and Systray is possible. Then again, i still use the same explorer (only one, task manager>explorer.exe) process, probably multiThreaded by desktop\systray\other Explorer windows in which i work. Anyone has ideas ? Played with this ? I have an WinXP workstation that is needed to be very secure (it is in the LAN production) and it is loaded with services, etc. It has 1.5Gig RAM, 3.0P4 HT, etc. With all the services, aplications (some use 600+RAM) and much network and local disk transfers it has problems with memory loss. Its memory usage is set to "system cache", its Page file is set from 300 - 600MB. Some registry hacks are added to memory mangment (wide spread on Web). In some cases when 80% of the P. RAM is drilled and all of the VM is used, some scheadules like simple batch procedures can not occure, they fail, they die, their processes can not run nor they can finish. Also, there is that Horrible sound when all that *.cmds fail. I/O operations liek write/read/other I think are making the problem. Im not sure of the default of the I/O operations that WinXP can handle in the same moment, think the number is in millions, but still, think that it should be more then default. .. i need more testing and Yes, every hint is a good hint. Thank You. -+- M. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
