Ever hear the term "let sleeping dogs lie"? You're likely asking for
trouble ripping apart a perfectly functioning PC to move its internals
into another case, just because another motherboard won't fit another
case. Find a better AT case instead of all the gyrations designed to
aggravate and possibly fail. There are perfectly good used but unused AT
cases everywhere if only you can find one that suits you.
The DIMM retainer is more an extractor than it is a retainer. Once you
push the DIMM into the socket, it's highly unlikely to climb out on its
own. The bigger problem with the broken "retainer" is what happens if
you need to get the DIMM out of the socket.
