TR> Ok, Rich, do you wish to talk about schools or law enforcement?
TR> I read the rest of your message, and you are
RW> Neither I'm talking about ZT and how it can very easily go from a
RW> good idea to a tar baby.
TR> Rich, I think that you have managed to discuss a couple of
TR> isolated problems that make zero tolerance programs in a
TR> SCHOOL less than perfect, but I don't think you've made your
TR> case to the extent that many would be ready to abandon these
TR> SCHOOL programs. I doubt that you have even convinced many
Try it and see. Ask some parents if they thing that a
child should or should not be allowed to carry meds on
his person if the timely use of that medicine could
save the child's life. If they tell you that they
should tell them that, until this school year, doing so
could get that child expelled in my school district and
ask them if they think this rule is protecting the
children.
Also check the rules in your local area. See how they
define drugs, weapons, violent activity and sexual
contact. I think you will be surprised to see that
some or all are so broadly defined that almost any
child could get expelled at some time in the school
year.
And one last thing, when was the last time you went to
a school board meeting and seen how these rules are
made?
TR> parents that the specific rules you are talking about need
TR> to be thrown out in a SCHOOL program. School programs are
TR> fairly easy to change. A simple petition to the school board
I can tell by this you haven't been to too many school
board meetings.
TR> is usually all that is required. Comparing a SCHOOL program
TR> to LAW ENFORCEMENT programs is like comparing grapes and
TR> watermelons. I'll leave it to your imagination as to which
Nope. As I said before school rules and laws are set
in almost the same fashion and the people under these
rules have very little say in how they are enforced.
TR> entity is the grape. Your first problem would be finding a
TR> significant number of people who share your opinion about
TR> SCHOOL programs.
I'm not talking about programs I'm talking about school
ZT rules. And of course how this is close enough to
make ME know I don't want to allow law enforcement to
have the same type of rules.
