subject: 56K Modems?

   CF-> range is the Sportster (a device targetd more toward the casual
   CF-> on-line user), and the Courier (a device oriented more toward the
   CF-> power user).

If you are set on purchasing a 3COM/USR product, have a suitably powered
system (P-90+ w/16+MB), and run Windows (3.1+ or 95/98) comm applications
exclusively, the Winmodem is a low-priced reasonable choice, though one I
personally do not favor. I believe that you would be better served by the
slightly more costly standard Sportster. [Note: all currently shipping
3COM/USR products incorporate support for the recently approved ITU-T V.90
56Kbps protocol as well as X2].
