     And I've taken on another load:  Chair of NRA's Membership
Committee.  We must have the members to support our political and
legislative efforts -- members who are not only pleased with
NRA's direction, but confident that their money is wisely spent.
     I've talked with many of you who are convinced that the NRA
bureaucracy has paid too little attention to the wishes of the
members, is wasting money on too much mail, and is asking for
funds for too many programs.  I intend to find out.
     As if that weren't enough to keep me busy, I'm expecting an
early end to the current lull in gun law matters on Capitol Hill.
Guns are a major issue in the elections, and both sides will be
jockeying for political advantage very soon.
     We're feeling the pinch of not having time to do outside
writing and other work, so if you haven't made a recent
contribution to our efforts we'd appreciate the help.
