a friend gave me his XPH laptop to (try to) fix... they had taken it to a
couple of other places and each had told them that their HD had crapped
out... neither of us believe this since the machine will boot but seems to
be in a reboot loop... something about can access a hive, dumping virtual
memory and rebooting... i seem to recall a worm that would/could cause this
type of behavoir...

its a HP laptop and there's (currently) no CD or other restore disk...
possibly something on a hidden partition or something... i'm considering a
DOS boot disk with NTFS driver to access the drive to gather data that is
not wanted to be lost... mainly pictures of family and geneology stuff...

any advice is greatly appreciated!
