For those of you who were playing with the script:

Hello,
The "Silent Runners.vbs" script has been *significantly* revised.
It is recommended that you download Silent Runners R18 and delete earlier
versions.
1. Output of HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\ has
been _greatly_ restricted.
Output occurs only if an executable is listed in HKLM but not in the
corresponding HKCU key or if the comma-separated decimal version number
value in the HKLM key is greater than the value in the HKCU key.
Thanks to Francis for pointing me to:
http://www.etlengineering.com/installer/activesetup.txt
which allowed me to perform the necessary tests to better understand this
launch location.
2. All enabled scheduled task names are listed, including tasks added via
the AT command, along with the program that's launched. The script examines
every Task Scheduler .JOB file, which is in an undocumented binary Unicode
format. If you find that the script either incorrectly identifies disabled
tasks as enabled or vice versa, please let me know.
3. The script can now be run from the command line using the CSCRIPT.EXE script host.
4. Two keys were added:
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\Shell (WXP)
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Shell (NT4+) The
key list on the welcome page was modified:
http://www.aaronoff.com/silent_runners/#keylist
5. The script header was rewritten to accommodate search engines and the
revision number was added to the first line of the output file.
6. The startup folder name is not written to the output file if the folder is empty.
The updated script (R18) can be found here:

The MD5 hash of the script can be found here:

The Silent Runners welcome page can be found here:

Thanks to those users who have provided feedback enabling the script to be
improved. If you ever have any problem getting this script to run, please
let me know.
If this script fails to identify any program that starts up with Windows
(including programs that appear in your system tray), please let me know.
I'll help you identify how the program starts up and modify the script, if
appropriate, so others may benefit. Older versions of the script can be
found here: http://www.aaronoff.com/silent_runners/history/
"Silent Runners" is hard to find -- please add links to the
welcome page on your web sites: http://www.aaronoff.com/silent_runners/ If
you get tired of receiving revision updates, just ask and you will be
removed from the distribution list. regards, Andy
