It's sad your friend lost that Beanie doll, because it will be expensive to
replace.
Beanie & Cecil was the most successful Bob Clampett cartoon ever, and the
show has a large cult following. Any toys for the show came out at a time
when toys were meant for kids to play with, not to be collected. As a
result, most toys from the show *were* played with, and were destroyed or
broken. This makes finding good quality toys from the show today very hard.
Combined with the fact that Beanie and Cecil was such a distinctive cartoon,
fondly remembered by large numbers of people (many of whom are looking for
toys and memoribilia from the show) and you have a high demand, low
availability situation - which translates into high values for any and
everything related to the show. One good thing is you're not looking for the
D.J. doll - that one is the MOST expensive.
I am going to a large west coast toy show in a few weeks; I'll keep my eyes
open. The problem is going to be, that if I find one, I'll need a fast way
to reach you from the show so I can tell you what I find, in what condition,
and how much, so you can make a decision. I expect a Beanie doll could run
as much as $200.00 or so. I'd also need to have funds from you available
should you decide to have me purchase the item for you. This would mean you
sending me say, $200.00, which I'd take to the show with me. If I find a
doll, or more than one doll there, I'd give you a call, describe each, and
you could decide yay or nay on each. If you decided not to get a doll at
all, I'd just return your funds to you the day after the show.
Let me know if you'd like me to do this for you. I think a large toy show is
going to be your only hope of actually locating one of these dolls.
