that Steve Holmes spake unto All :

If you're looking for something that recognizes a specific voice (and
therefore needs specific training), there are several options, most cheap and
clunky.
If you want the real thing, take a look at IBM's VoiceType Dictation or the
old ICSS (IBM Continuous Speech System) packages. Both are based on the same
SPEECH-recognition (as opposed to VOICE-recognition) engine and will handle
speech by just about anyone without the need of special training. *With*
full training, VoiceType will take dictation at up to 90wpm. The only catch
is that VTD requires a special hardware card, and the complete package runs
about $700.
Or... wait a couple more months for the release of the next version of IBM's
OS/2 Warp operating system (currently code-named Merlin), which will include
VoiceType *as part of the OS*. Merlin's dictation and voice control (you can
navigate the system by voice command - good mouse!) will work with any sound
card and again, will not require special training.
If you have 'Web access, check out http://www.austin.ibm.com/pspinfo for more
info.
