->Quite by accident I discovered that my son is _very_ interested in
->woodworking, he will go to his room and watch the "New Yankee Workshop" on
->PBS whenever it is on ... hey it's loads better than MTV!! He now has
->"his" tools (all hand tools) and a stash of scrap lumber. I can never
->find an unused screw or a nail when I really need one.. (-8 We just
->finished a school project that he pretty much designed and built with
->minimal help....had to incorporate 3 simple machines into one
->functional "thing"...simple machines being screw, wheel/axle, ramp,
->lever, pulley etc..it's basically made of wood. He actually drew a
->plan before he picked up a tool.... now if this will HURRY UP and
->CARRY OVER..!!
On the Saturdays that I don't work a double I usually have PBS on for the
home inprovment shows which include the "New Yankee Workshop", and several
other shows which usually include some sort of working with hands on wood
projects. One which used to be on (it still might be) that featured one man
working in a back woods type of seting with no power for power tools so
everything was really hand made including his tools. My son really loved it.
 And if he was outside playing and I did not call him in and he found out
that it was either over or almost over he would get mad. As of yet he has
not shown any interest in actually making anything. Two Christmas's ago I
bought him a kit of balsa wood (I thing that is the type of wood very thin if
I remember right) that would make 12 or so items it had everything needed
incluind a saw (jig I think) sandpaper, balsa wood and a few other items. No
one item was started of if it was it was never near a finish point. What
gets me he loves watching wood making things on TV but will not use what he
learns. By the way he is ADHD and 12 and in the 7th grade. ADHD since grade
2.
