I guessed as much. Would you know what is meant by the number that appears
when one issues the AT I1 command (it shows a number "14181" and the ROM
version -- "U1496E  V 6.15 P") -- What could 14181 mean? No. of bytes?

Hmmm. distinctive ring -- I believe this feature is not available on our
phone lines (I'm in the Philippines, if you haven't noticed). How is 
distinctive ring used?
