One "solution" of sorts is a front fender. For some reason, when riding in
the rain the wheel throws a steady stream of water right at my feet. I have
a hybrid with a front fender that stops that. About the only time I ride it
is when it is raining.
Last year they were promoting sandals with SPD cleats. I might look into
that since all of my bikes are equipped with SPDs.
